DEGARDO is delighted to present exclusively the unique terracotta pots from the Goicoechea pottery.
These terracotta products have been handmade for over 50 years between the Pyrenee mountains and the green valleys of the Basque Country in France; they are probably the highest quality winter-resistant terracotta in Europe. The unique shapes and sizes (from S to XXL) of DEGARDO´s Goicoechea products offer an excellent solution for any design scenario. Whether it’s the small and medium pots from our JARDIN assortment in natural colour terracotta, or the exclusive, glazed large pots from our XXL collection that can be tailored to your wishes – each of these is a unique and masterly product. Pots from the JARDIN and XXL collections fit well in practically all areas of modern terracotta design. JARDIN encompasses mainly the small and medium sized pots which are made using a turning/pressing process. There are angular designs available in addition to the circular shapes. The XXL pots are made using a unique rope technique. On request, they can be finished with structural surfaces and baked-on glazes. Both the JARDIN and XXL collections are made exclusively with pure original Goicoechea terracotta.
Handling this natural material requires technical expertise combined with the experience of generations. During its customized creation, each exceptional XXL object requires the utmost level of attention and passion: while preparing the raw material and while creating the shape and surface. We use only natural terracotta colouring. Even the unusual white material is of natural origin. Several steps are required to eliminate all air pockets from the terracotta. The clay is then applied by hand to ropes which have been wound around a wooden mould. The desired surface texture is worked out manually. The wound ropes are gradually removed over the course of several days as the pot dries. The natural or glazed pot is then free so that it can be put in a special oven for the slow firing process. This takes place over several days. The pot is then signed by the artist and subject to an intensive quality control check. This unique creation then begins its journey to the customer. It represents a distinctive object that combines modern product design and master craftsmanship.
